My two cents worth: I would encourage all to attend if possible. We have attended virtually all of the MIHS camps offered in Soldotna since mites, and have found them worthwhile, and fun, and "game day" at the conclusion is a blast. I think it is also important for the kids to get exposure to varied drills and coaching and instruction styles. No matter what skill level a player is at, my own observation is that most of them get motivated in these camps.

Some people think that the camps are for the elite player only...that is not the case. Brad has done an excellent job of accomodating players at different skill levels and giving them meaningful experience.

Let's support MIHS. You are not going to find a better camp for the price, and right in our own back yard.

Doug Johnson

Doug Johnson enters his first season as assistant coach for the Lancers. After a brief absence from hockey, Johnson spent the second half of the 2007-08 season under Littler as one of the Tri-City Storm’s assistant coaches.

Born and raised in Bracken, Saskatchewan, Johnson began his junior hockey career in Nipawin in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League. For his fourth and final year of juniors, he moved to the North America Hockey League to play for and captain a Billings Bulls team that was coached by Littler.

After leaving Billings, Johnson spent the next six seasons in the pro hockey ranks with stints in Fresno, CA; Binghamton, NY; Lake Charles, LA; Odessa, TX and Austin, TX.

Johnson began his coaching career during the 2004-05 season the same place he ended his junior career when he was named the Billings Bulls’ assistant coach. He was promoted to head coach for the 2005-06 season. When the Bulls folded, he followed a similar pattern when he moved on to the Central Hockey League for the 2006-07 season. Johnson ended the season as the Odessa Jackalopes’ Head Coach after starting the campaign as an assistant coach.

As he has advanced in his coaching career, Johnson has become involved with USA Hockey. He coached at USA Hockey’s Select 17 Player Development Camp in 2006 and 2008. He has also assisted at the Rocky Mountain District Player Development Camp.

Johnson is single and resides in Omaha.
